AquaShield Tiles

AquaShield Tiles are hexagonal tiles with two main components: a body made of nautral pumice and glass foam, combined with microcapsule backings. We chose pumice and glassfoam due to their ability to insulate heat, acting as a barrier from the sun and wind, decreasing evaporation rates. Not just that, but both materials are bouyant and light-weight, allowing the tiles to float comfortably on top of any body of water. The real genius of AquaShield Tiles lies in the combination of evaporation prevention with water purification technology. The later component of AquaShield Tiles are microcapsules with chemicals that aim to purify water. Microcapsules have two main parts, a shell and a core. The shell for AquaShield Tiles will be made out of a hybrid structure of Chitin, scilica and Polyacrylic acid. Chitin is sensitive to both low pH's and toxicity, defined by the presence of toxic metals such as lead. When triggered, these shells will first swell before dissolving, effectively letting core contents outside. For the core material, AquaShield Tiles utilizes Mg(OH)2, a waster water treatment industry standard. It has many desirable qualities, with an ability to flocculate suspended solids, precipitate toxic metals, and increase low pH's. Overall, with the increased installment of AquaShield Tiles, we will bring sustainable, preservable, and safe drinking water to everybody.
